Introduction

My name is Kimberly Green and I am a college student attending Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I am a psychology major, currently taking an English course on the topic of literacy. One of the options of this course was to follow an experiential research track and work with the Read Aloud Chattanooga literacy program. Upon meeting founder Bill Thurman, I was immediately intrigued by the ideas of Read Aloud. As the mother of a two year old, I had never given much thought to how important it was to read aloud to her. Having a personal investment in gaining more knowledge on how reading aloud to children from a young age encourages a love of reading and creates higher literacy levels later in life, I chose this as my research project for the semester. As you will find throughout my blog, the hardest part of this endeavor is getting the information out to parents. Plenty of research has been done, but finding a way to bring that research into the homes of families has proven to be a great obstacle. As many parents are becoming avid users of social media, I felt creating a blog site that provides the research to parents in an easily accessible, digital format would help send out this great message. Please take a look around and feel free to comment on the various pages. Happy reading!
